Get Up and Running
Head to nohandstext.com/download and click the download button. The installer is around 15 MB and works on Windows 10 and 11. After downloading, run the installer and follow the setup wizard.
Run the downloaded installer (.exe). It will guide you through the setup. After installation, the app starts automatically and takes you through the onboarding flow where you'll set your hotkey, choose your language, and test your microphone.
Hold your Push-to-Talk hotkey (Right Ctrl by default), speak clearly, then release the key. Your spoken words will be transcribed and typed wherever your cursor is. The text appears in any app - browsers, editors, messengers, anywhere you can type.
Go to Settings and click the hotkey field. Press any key or key combination you want to use as your new Push-to-Talk trigger. The app supports single keys and multi-key combos. Make sure it doesn't conflict with your Discord hotkey if you use the Discord integration.
Go to Settings and find the Microphone dropdown. It lists all connected audio input devices. Select the one you want to use. You can test it right there with the built-in mic test - it shows a visual level meter and lets you play back a test recording.
When you first launch the app, you'll go through a quick setup wizard: choose your theme (dark or light), set your Push-to-Talk hotkey, select your transcription language, test your microphone, and see a summary of your settings. This takes about 30 seconds.
Ways to Transcribe
The default mode. Hold your configured hotkey, speak, and release. The audio is sent for transcription and the result is typed at your cursor position. Best for quick messages, notes, and dictation in bursts.
Click the Hands Off button or say 'Hands on' to start continuous dictation. The app listens and transcribes in chunks without holding any key. Say 'Hands off' to stop. Perfect for longer dictation sessions like emails, documents, or brainstorming.
Click the Live button to start real-time streaming transcription. Text appears as you speak with minimal delay - no waiting for chunks to finish. Uses WebSocket streaming for the lowest possible latency. Ideal for live captioning or when you want to see text flow in real-time.
In Continuous and Live modes, say 'Hands on' to start dictating and 'Hands off' to stop. The app detects these phrases automatically. You'll hear an acoustic feedback sound when the trigger is recognized. This lets you go completely hands-free.

Set your transcription language to 'Auto' and the app will automatically detect which language you're speaking. This works per transcription - you can switch languages between recordings without changing any settings. With the Max Accuracy engine, you can even switch languages mid-sentence.
Enable auto-translation in Settings and choose your target language. Speak in any language, and the transcribed text will be automatically translated to your target language before being typed. Powered by AI for natural, context-aware translations. Supports 30+ target languages.
The app interface is available in 24 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Czech, Ukrainian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. Change it in Settings under Language.
Smart Processing & Productivity
Choose how your text is formatted: None (exactly as spoken), Formal (capitalized sentences, proper punctuation, filler words removed), Casual (lowercase start, minimal punctuation), Very Casual (all lowercase, no punctuation), or Vibes (loose, slang-friendly with contextual emoji insertions). Set a default style or let it auto-switch per app.
The app detects which window is active and automatically switches your writing style. Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, and Telegram default to Casual. Outlook, Gmail, and Word default to Formal. Code editors default to None. You can customize these mappings in Settings to match your preferences.
Control formatting with your voice while dictating. Say 'new line' or 'neue Zeile' for a line break, 'new paragraph' for a paragraph break, 'delete that' to remove the last text. Punctuation commands: 'period', 'comma', 'question mark', 'exclamation mark', 'colon', 'semicolon', 'dash', 'open quote', 'close quote', 'ellipsis'. Works in both English and German.
Filler words are automatically removed from all transcriptions regardless of writing style. English fillers: uh, um, like, basically, actually, literally, you know, I mean, sort of. German fillers: aeh, aehm, halt, quasi, sozusagen, irgendwie, naja, wie gesagt. Multi-word filler phrases are caught too.
Add custom word corrections that are applied after every transcription. Maps 'wrong' text to 'correct' text - perfect for fixing recurring misrecognitions of names, technical terms, or jargon. Import and export your dictionary as CSV. Find it in the Dictionary section of the app.
Create reusable text templates triggered by voice. Say 'snippet [name]' to instantly insert a saved template. Great for email signatures, standard responses, code blocks, or any text you type frequently. Create and manage snippets in the Snippets section.
Set up custom trigger phrases that execute specific actions. For example, say 'email boss' to automatically insert your email greeting snippet. Hotwords can trigger snippet insertions or text replacements. Configure them in Settings under Hotwords.
A quick notes workspace within the app. Jot down ideas, copy transcriptions for review, or keep temporary text. Your scratchpad notes persist between app restarts.
Every transcription is automatically saved locally with timestamps. Browse your full history, search through past transcriptions, and view them with markdown formatting. Export individual transcriptions or your entire history. Your complete transcription diary, always available.
Integrations & Interface
Automatically mutes your Discord microphone while you're recording with Hands Off. Your friends won't hear you dictating. To set it up: configure the same hotkey in Discord's Keybinds settings as your Discord Mute hotkey in Hands Off. The app presses this key when recording starts and stops.
Like Auto-Mute, but also mutes incoming audio while recording. Useful if you want complete silence during dictation. Configure a separate Deafen hotkey in both Discord and Hands Off. Note: Auto-Mute and Auto-Deafen are mutually exclusive - pick one.
A floating overlay that shows your current recording status. Displays the mode (Recording, Processing, Listening), a timer, and animated waveform bars. Color-coded: red while recording, yellow while processing, green when listening. Always on top of other windows so you never lose track of your dictation state.
Switch between light and dark themes from the navbar or settings. Your preference is saved and restored on every launch. Both themes are carefully designed with proper contrast and comfortable colors for long use.
The app shows a notification bell in the titlebar when there are new announcements or updates. Click it to see the latest news. Auto-update notifications appear when a new version is available, with one-click update capability.
Push-to-Talk hotkey: fully customizable, supports key combinations. Discord Mute/Deafen hotkeys: separate customizable keys. All hotkeys work globally - even when the app is in the background. Key names are displayed in your selected app language.

Your audio is sent to our servers only for transcription and is not stored after processing. All transcriptions are saved locally on your computer, not in the cloud. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit. Your voice data is never used for training AI models.
Hands Off is currently available for Windows 10 and Windows 11. macOS and Linux support is planned for the future.
No, Hands Off requires an internet connection for transcription. The audio is processed by cloud-based AI engines to deliver the best possible accuracy. An offline mode with local processing is being explored for future releases.
Accuracy depends on the engine: Ultrafast delivers good accuracy for everyday use, and Max Accuracy achieves 99%+ accuracy with AI polish. Clear audio, a good microphone, and minimal background noise all improve results.

Go to Settings in Hands Off and enable Discord Auto-Mute. Set a mute hotkey (e.g., F13 or a key combo you don't use). Then open Discord Settings > Keybinds > Add a Keybind > Toggle Mute, and set the same key. Now when you record with Hands Off, Discord automatically mutes.
Click the bug icon in the app's sidebar. You can submit bug reports or feature requests with a title and description. The app automatically includes your version number and OS info to help us investigate. We read every report and prioritize fixes.
The app checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, you'll see a notification on the login screen and in the notification bell. Click to download and install - the update is seamless and takes seconds.
